Did you know that September is either National Breakfast Month or Better Breakfast Month? It all depends on which source you believe. Either way, September is the month to celebrate breakfast. I'm reposting my mama's Breakfast Sausage Casserole that I posted a while back. It's good enough to be repost-worthy.
But first, a few facts and trivia about breakfast:
- The word breakfast originated in the mid-15th century. The literal meaning was "to break fast", or to break the fast of not eating since the night before.
- In the U.S., 65% of all coffee is drunk during breakfast.
- While September is National Breakfast Month, aka Better Breakfast Month, February is National Hot Breakfast Month.
- People who eat breakfast are less likely to overeat at lunch.
- Cereal was invented by colonial housewives who served popcorn with cream and sugar for breakfast. (Hmmm... )
- Instant coffee has existed since the mid-18th century.
- A study of death row inmates showed that of the 281 inmates executed since 1986, only 7.5% requested breakfast foods. (I think I would request sausage, biscuits and gravy. At that point, who cares about their cholesterol?)
