PRESS RELEASE

Riveting Tale of Faith and Romance
by an Acclaimed Novelist

A three-time Christy Award nominee, Siri Mitchell is known for bringing history to life in a way few authors can. Never one to simply set a story in the past, Siri embraces the full culture and practices of the time—offering an accessible, accurate, and entertaining picture of days gone by. Her skill, engaging style, and compelling storytelling have caused readers and critics alike to take notice.

In The Messenger, Siri takes readers to Revolutionary-era America, with all its intrigues and
dangers, highlighting a rich aspect of the day’s culture—the Quakers and their pacifist ideals.
When an unlikely pair finds themselves acting as spies, can their sense of right, faith, and their
very lives survive the deception?

Hannah Sunderland felt content in her embrace of the Quaker faith...until her twin brother joined
the Colonial cause and ended up in jail. She longs to bring some measure of comfort to him in the

squalid prison, but her faith forbids it. The Friends believe that they are not to take sides, not to take

up arms. She is not allowed to visit him, even if she were able to secure a pass.

Jeremiah Jones, a Colonial spy, needs access to the jail to help rescue men important to the cause.
Upon meeting Hannah, he begins to develop a plan. Who would suspect a pious Quaker visiting a

loved one?

But Jeremiah is unprepared for Hannah, for her determination to do right, to not lie. How can one
be a spy and not lie? Hannah, in turn, is surprised by Jeremiah...for the way he forces her to confront
her own beliefs, for the sensitivity and concern that he shows her despite the wounds he still carries.

Full of suspense, sweet romance, and captivating characters that ring with authenticity, The
Messenger shows once again that Siri Mitchell is a name to know in historical fiction.

READER REVIEW

Siri Mitchell's latest novel, "The Messenger", is set in pre-Revolutionary War Philadelphia.  Hannah's twin brother has defied their Quaker faith and joined the Colonial fight for freedom.    Consequently, her brother has been jailed by the Loyalists and left to starve and/or die of disease with the other Colonial prisoners.  When Jeremiah sees Hannah trying to get into the jail to visit her brother, he realizes that the British would not suspect a Quaker woman of dishonesty and hatches a plan to use her as a spy.

The Revolutionary War era is not one of the more popular settings for the Christian historical fiction genre, so this was a welcome change.  It was obvious that Ms. Mitchell had researched the era, as well as the Quaker faith.  Hannah's character was refreshingly bold, and was firm in her resolve to do what was necessary, while still trying to remain true to her faith.

Over the last few years, I had become disinterested in Christian fiction, because so much of it was the same predictable mush.  I am happy to report that authors such as Siri Mitchell are bringing Christian fiction back to an appreciative audience.

SPRING CLEANING BOOK GIVEAWAY
As a book blogger/reviewer, dedicated bibliophile, and just plain serious reader, I have way too many books around here. Therefore, it is necessary to start clearing some of these bookshelves around here. For the next few weeks, I will be doing a couple of book giveaways a week. The giveaways will begin each Saturday and end on Friday midnight of that week. Unless otherwise noted, these books are my VERY CAREFULLY read review copies. So, technically, they are used, but you can hardly tell it. Ask anyone in my family; I'm a nut regarding the way I read books. I try not to open them too widely,or leave them splayed open, and I never!!! fold pages down. Yes, I have issues, but it's going to pay off for some of you. : )
