About the book . . .

Filled with page-turning suspense, The Tutor’s Daughter takes readers to the windswept Cornwall coast–a place infamous for shipwrecks and superstitions–where danger lurks, faith is tested, and romance awaits.

Emma Smallwood, determined to help her widowed father when his boarding school fails, accompanies him to the cliff-top manor of a baronet and his four sons. But soon after they arrive and begin teaching the two younger boys, mysterious things begin to happen. Who does Emma hear playing the pianoforte at night, only to find the music room empty? And who begins sneaking into her bedchamber, leaving behind strange mementoes?

The baronet’s older sons, Phillip and Henry Weston, wrestle with problems–and secrets–of their own. They both remember the studious Miss Smallwood from their days at her father’s academy. But now one of them finds himself unexpectedly drawn to her…

When suspicious acts escalate, can Emma figure out which brother to blame and which to trust with her heart?

Reader Review . . .

When John Smallwood's boarding school closes while he is still grieving the loss of his wife, his daughter Emma is worried about him.  So when the opportunity arises for him to travel to Ebbington Manor to work as a tutor for the Weston twins, she is more than willing to accompany him in order to work as his assistant.  In previous years, the elder Weston brothers, Henry and Phillip, were students at Smallwood's boarding school, and young Emma has clear memories of her time with them.  She believes that she knows them both well, and arrives with her opinions of each firmly set.  But from the moment of their arrival at Ebbington Manor, Emma realizes that the Weston family harbors secrets, and nothing is ever as it seems.

The Tutor's Daughter is a suspenseful romance set in England in the Regency era, written in the style of Jane Austen.  With most of the story taking place in a gloomy manor on the cliffs of the Cornwall coast, the reader is swept into a saga where anything can happen and the motives and actions of all characters are suspect.  The author has used the third-person narrative, giving the reader access only to Emma's thoughts.  Henry and Phillip are both conflicted, complex characters who seem to be polar opposites of one another, and this is repeated in the younger Weston brothers, Julian and Rowan, as well.  Not until the end will the reader know all the secrets of Ebbington Manor.

Recommended for adolescents and up; Christian -based suspense and romance.

I think that's why I signed up for this tour. The cover looked good. Fortunately, it proved to be accurate.
