ISBN: 0985726776
ISBN-13: 9780985726775
Pub. Date: January 11, 2013

In Blast from the Past, Mac Faraday finds himself up to his eyeballs in mobsters and federal agents.

After an attempted hit ends badly with two of his men dead, mobster Tommy Cruze arrives in Spencer, Maryland, to personally supervise the execution of the witness responsible for putting him behind bars—Archie Monday!

Mac Faraday believes he has his work cut out for him in protecting his lady love from one of the most dangerous leaders in organized crime; but when bodies start dropping in his lakeshore resort town of Spencer, Maryland, things may be hotter than even he can handle.

In this fourth installment in the Mac Faraday Mysteries, readers learn more about Archie Mondays past in a flashas in a gun fight when the syndicate comes to town. “Readers love to be surprised,” mystery author Lauren Carr says. “In Blast from the Past, they are going to be surprised to discover the secret of Archie Mondays past, which threatens her and Macs future.”
Blast from the Past also takes the Mac Faraday Mysteries to a new level as his relationship with Archie Monday moves onto a whole new level. “I do listen to readers,” Carr explains. “They have been clamoring for Mac and Archie to get together for three books.”
What about Gnarly, Mac Faradays canine inheritancethe only German shepherd to be dishonorably discharged from the United States Army? “Its not a Mac Faraday Mystery without Gnarly,” Carr promises. “Lets just say Gnarly kicks things up a notch in his own way.”

Reader review . . .

Everyone has a past, even Robin Spencer's former assistant, Archie Monday.  When Archie's past comes calling in the form of a newly released mobster, it takes the combined efforts of Mac, David, the Feds, and of course Gnarly to sort things out.
Yes!  A new Mac Faraday mystery!  Although this one is really focused on Archie, a trip to Deep Creek Lake is always good.  The relationship between Mac and Archie continues to grow, and Archie's story is told for the first time, including how she came to work for Robin.  David and Mac work together again protecting Archie and solving a murder with the help of an attractive federal marshal.
While all of the repeat characters are still interesting, Gnarly is the star this time.  We find out he's more than just a pretty (canine) face, even though he does want that appointment at the doggy spa.  He earns his keep in this novel, and we see the working side of Gnarly.  His shining moments are with a little girl named Sari who refuses to talk to people.
Of the new characters, Sari is the most sympathetic.  Her communication with Gnarly is touching.  The least sympathetic is her mother, Leah.  She is genuinely unlikeable, and at the end of the story, we understand why.
The story moves along at a fast pace and kept me hooked until the end.  Once again, Ms. Carr has written an entertaining mystery with her appealing characters.  I look forward to yet another trip to Deep Creek Lake with Mac, Archie, and Gnarly.
5 stars
